Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese healing modality aimed at balancing the flow of life force, or energy (Prana, Qi or Chi) through the meridian systems; energetic pathways, within the physical body.
Through the insertion of the needles, into the specific meridian pathways, at varying acupuncture points, acupuncture philosophy believes this practice re-balances and restores the flow of stuck energy, in the body, held within these pathways, which hinders our sense of well-being and which can create dis-ease.
The insertion of the needles under the skin, also stimulates sensory nerves under the skin and muscles, which promotes pain-relieving endorphins.
What to Expect
During your treatment you can expect that Martin will take a full medical history and using the Chinese acupuncture diagnostics may closely examine the following..
- The parts of your body that are painful
- The shape, coating and colour of your tongue
- The colour of your face
- The strength, rhythm and quality of the pulse in your wrist
Martin will then formulate an action plan of treatments which may include weekly visits. The number of sessions you will need will depend largely on the condition, severity of the condition and individual circumstances, but acupuncture can typically take up to 8 weeks. This will, however, be discussed during the first consultation.
Acupuncture for children for under 14 years of age is not recommended unless paediatrically trained.
Acupuncture for children over the age of 14 will need to be discussed with Martin prior to booking an appointment. Please use our Contact Us button to see how we can help you.
